Our Mission

USMUN exists to give every high school student in America the chance to debate the world's hardest problems, represent a nation, and lead. We do that by bringing Model United Nations to every state and by giving our best delegates a seat at the United Nations itself.

We serve more than 65,000 members nationwide, with more than 1,654 schools represented. Our State MUN conferences run in all 50 states, and our National Conference is held at the official United Nations conference center in New York.

  • A State MUN in every one of the 50 states
  • National Conference at United Nations Headquarters, New York
  • $150 per delegate through your school or $180 individually
  • 35+ committees at every State MUN, 40+ at National MUN
  • $14,000+ in scholarships awarded

History

USMUN is now in its 18th year of operation. What began as a single conference has grown into a national network, with a State MUN in every state and a National Conference in New York that brings the top delegates from across the country together.

Along the way we have built lasting partnerships. We work with veterans who funded more than $237,000 last year to support students and conferences, and we maintain ties with 135 global UN ambassadors who speak to, mentor and inspire our delegates.

Our State MUN conferences follow one national format so that a delegate in Alaska gets the same experience as a delegate in Florida: an opening plenary, committee sessions, one overnight stay, and a closing awards ceremony.

The 2026-2027 State MUN season runs from November 27, 2026 to January 31, 2027. Each State MUN is two days with one overnight stay, held Friday to Saturday or Saturday to Sunday. The National Conference is February 26-28, 2027.

Venue Selection

How We Choose Host Cities

State MUNs are placed in each state's largest practical student and conference market, with population as the primary factor and statewide travel, room inventory, airport and highway access, and conference economics as tie-breakers.

Venue Requirements

A plenary hall for the opening and closing ceremonies, six to sixteen committee rooms depending on state size, registration space, an advisor lounge and an operations room, with guest rooms on site or directly connected.
